Frost Shards are a weapon used by Daedolon in Hexen.
Overview[]
Frost Shards is not a terribly effective weapon, but can do a fair amount of damage. Because the shards spread out quickly and will miss individual enemies, it helps to be as close to your target as possible, and a maximum damage roll is possible if the spell is performed on the monster itself, essentially acting as a melee attack.
Monsters killed by the shards will freeze in place, wherein the frozen body shatters after several seconds or if hit by any other weapon Daedolon has on him (even the sapphire wand). This makes it very useful against individual enemies, but not all that good for crowd control.
